Classroom Procedures

My name is Alexander Cooper, and I teach Digital Desktop Publishing, Business Finance and Key Boarding/Computer Applications at Mauldin High School.  In this letter, I hope to briefly familiarize you with my expectations for your child in these courses and to provide you with information that will help you to help your child be successful this year.

For these courses, your child will be provided with classroom sets of books ; a three ring binder, pencils, and pens, and a flash drive to use for storing computer documents and files will only help your child’s needs and is highly recommended.  Flash drives should be at least 2 GB.  They can be purchased at electronics stores and retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target.

To maintain a well-ordered and disciplined class, I have established rules and procedures for students to follow.  My classroom rules are:

  • Show respect for the right of all students to learn and for the teacher to teach.
  • Raise your hand and wait to be recognized before speaking.
  • Maintain a professional environment by eating, drinking, and chewing gum before or after class.
  • Use language appropriate for class.
  • Follow all rules in the Mauldin High School Code of Conduct.

My classroom procedures are:

  • Come to class prepared with all necessary materials.
  • Be in class and seated when the tardy bell rings.
  • Follow all teacher instructions.
  • Write your name and date on all assignments.
  • Wait to be dismissed by the teacher at the end of each class.
  • Ask for any makeup work and complete assignments within two weeks after an absence.

The consequences are:

  • Verbal Warning
  • Parent Phone Call
  • Detention
  • Conference
  • Office Referral

The teacher has the right to go directly to the office referral based on the severity of the student’s behavior.

The rewards are:

  • Praise
  • Notes/Emails home
  • Positive Phone Calls Home
  • Surprises

This course takes a hand – on approach, and we practice many of the required skills in the classroom on the lab computers.  Homework and independent projects are essential, so it is very important that your child completes all assignments.  Assignments must be turned in on time.  Students cannot turn homework assignments in late unless they were absent when the assignments were due. All pre-assigned work will fall under the same policy as above.

For makeup work, students will follow the district policy.

I strive to maintain open communication with parents.  Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns about the course or your child’s progress.  I can be contacted by email at alcooper@greenville.k12.sc.us or by phone at (864) 355 – 6544 during school hours.  I can also schedule parent-teacher conferences as needed.

To help me stay in contact with you, please complete the attached form with your contact information.  Also, please list any special needs such as medication, allergies, and any other helpful information. All information is confidential and will only be used by me to help your child.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.  I look forward to working with you and your child so that we all can have a successful semester.  If I can do anything to help your child be successful in this course, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Alexander L. Cooper

I have listed in my syllabus and in your student hand book pages 8 and 9 the South Carolina Uniform Grading Scale. This scale will be followed without modifications.
