My name is Belinda Jenkins, and I teach English at Star Academy-Donaldson Center and English and Film Criticism and Hillcrest High School.  I am from Greenville and love my community.  It is my goal to make a difference in this area by making a difference in the lives of the students I have the privilege and honor to teach.  I am a graduate of Converse College and USC Upstate.  I have a M.A.T. - Secondary English and  B.A. degrees in both English and History.  It is my goal to follow the example and tradition of those who inspired me to enjoy learning and knowledge--to inspire your children to learn, grow, and be inspired by what literature teaches us about our world.

In addition to teachers and professors, I am inspired by the world of literature and its many talented storytellers.  I particularly enjoy German writers like Franz Kafka, Bertold Brecht, and Thomas Mann.  I also enjoy British writers including Mary Shelley, Aldous Huxley, and George Orwell.  Additionally, practically any Post-Colonial writer can capture my attention.  If you would like an example, check out Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.  It is a truly great work illustrating the power and responsibility we have as we try to influence other peoples and civilizations.  If you would like to read something even edgier, the plays of Harold Pinter, Martin McDonagh, and Moises Kaufman are fantastic!  Yes, I am just that kind of geek when it comes to literature.  Hopefully, I can transfer some of my excitement to my students!

The 2010 -2011 school year will bring many literary adventures.  The first semester covers grammar skills and language usage.  In addition we will be reading, reading, reading.  The theme this year is Change.  What is change, and how does it impact us and the world around us?  The novels we will read will be dealing with this idea.
