My Brother’s Keeper Male Mentoring Program (MBK) was formed in 2005 in an effort to improve the test scores and decrease the retention rates of African American males. Freshman students are paired with upperclassmen African American males who have proven to be successful. The requirement of the mentor is to interact with their mentor on a daily basis and help students during tutoring on assigned or unassigned days.

Mission of MBK:

The mission of My Brother’s Keeper Mentoring Program is to change the perceptions of young African American males. We will strive to achieve academic excellence as well as to show society that African American males can be a positive force in the community. We will also prepare ourselves for post secondary education as well as the workforce.

Goals of MBK:

While in the program, students should be able to

n       Possess leadership skills

n       Maintain a “C” or better in every class

n       Conduct themselves in a positive way at all times

n       Maintain a clean discipline record

n       Get prepared for post secondary education or workforce
