Welcome to Stone Academy!  We invite you to learn more about Greenville’s only elementary arts magnet school and our exciting arts-integrated curriculum.

Research shows that students who have a strong background in the arts outscore other students on the Scholastic Aptitude Test by almost 100 points.  Student scores at Stone over the past decade have steadily improved and exceed the median scores of Greenville County Schools each year.

Stone Academy focuses on the arts in a way that no other school in Greenville does. We offer drama and dance weekly and strings to students beginning in third grade who wish to participate.  More importantly, we integrate the arts into instruction in each homeroom.  We have a partnership with the Peace Center for Performing Arts and Metropolitan Arts Council for professional development.  Through the I.D.E.A. (Intensive Development of Education through the Arts) our teachers train with local artists and artists from the Kennedy Center in Washington on how to incorporate the arts into instruction.  Our curriculum is filled with active learning and problem-solving experiences.  Students enjoy learning because they are actively engaged.  More importantly, they are using different areas of the brain while learning in different modalities, and thus retain and apply knowledge more effectively.

Tony Wagner of Harvard University, and author of The Global Achievement Gap, wrote “There are three basic skills that students need if they want to thrive in a knowledge economy: the ability to do critical thinking and problem-solving; the ability to communicate effectively; and the ability to collaborate.”  Our curriculum is filled daily with activities that develop problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.  We invite you to visit Stone and learn how we can prepare your child for life in the twenty first century!
