Course Syllabus
General Class Description:
Weight training is a course that will provide the students with the opportunity to become more familiar with personal and lifetime health and fitness. Students will work toward and obtain the standards set by the state department of education for physical education. In order to be accepted into one of these classes you should have completed and passed your PE1 or R.O.T.C. credit.
Course objectives:
1st 9 weeks

To learn muscle groups - Use correct spotting technique

Handle the equipment safely - Learn 10 week cycles

Movement Forms

(Team/Individual Sports) - Use correct form running technique
- Use correct lifting technique - Increase 1 rep maximum weight in each core lift
Instructional Materials:
Students are required to dress out for physical education. Students are responsible for providing their own t-shirts, shorts (no pockets) and tennis shoes. Wind pants or sweat pants may also be worn. Clothes worn for physical education also fall under the school dress code. It is recommended that students wear school colors when dressing out. The recommended color combinations are as follows:
Top/Bottom
White/blue (navy) or gray/blue (navy) or orange/blue (navy)
Students will be provided a lock/locker to keep their belongings in for class.
Classroom Management Plan Gym Procedures:
1.
Students are required to dress out and participate in class daily.
**Only a note from the school nurse or a doctor may excuse a student from participation in class.
2.
Students are expected to be in the locker rooms by the tardy bell.
3.
Follow directions the first time given.
4.
Respect yourself, your teacher, and your classmates.
5.
No food, drinks, gum, candy, or book bags will be allowed in the gym, multi-purpose room or weight room.
6.
Follow general and sport specific safety procedures covered in class.

Grading Policy:
60% - Major Assignments –Completion of every work out for each cycle 40% - Minor Assignments – dress out, participation,
Attendance:
Students who miss more than 5 days in a semester will fail the course. Students should bring a note to the attendance office within 2 days upon returning to school.
Communication with parents-
Parents will be contacted as needed to convey both positive and negative information. Communication will be in the form of notes home, phone calls, and in person meeting. General information will be posted on my web site.
