How to Shine Like a STAR in Mrs. Braeunig’s Class
#1 Read! Read! Read!
Currently in Mrs. Braeunig’s class we are reading Who Comes with Cannons by Patricia Beatty. Students are completing a literature study of this novel while reading in pairs or individually. Who Comes with Cannons is an adventurous tale of a young Quaker girl who learns that her family is part of the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. When her cousin in captured by the Confederates, young Truth goes on a daring journey to save him, and meets some interesting people along the way.
#2 Study hard!
In Social Studies we are learning about the Civil War. Through our novel we will be exploring what life was like during the Civil War and what the effect of the war was on all people. We are also taking a walk through history and looking back on all of the important things we have learned this year.
#3 Be creative, and always do your best!
In writing we will be working on memoirs. A memoir is a personal memory shared by the writer. We will be walking through the writing process and sharing our memories with each other.
