Mission Statement We provide educational experiences, in cooperation with the home and community, that prepare students for lifelong learning and for ethical, productive participation in a democratic society and the global community. New Grading Policy for PE:
This year the district has implemented a grading system where PE students in grades 2nd-5th will get a percentage grade each time they have PE, which is once per week. 80% of their grade will be participation and 20% will be from standards based assessments. Please go to my long range plans (syllabus) to view the participation standards explanation. Assessing your child in PE will be difficult since I only see him/her for 45 minutes per week even though state law requires we see them for 90 minutes per week. However, I will be very careful to make sure your child receives the grade they deserve. A "Q" stands for Quality Achievement, an "M" stands for Meets the Standards, a "P" is Progressing towards Standards, and an "L" means Little or No Progression toward Standards. The percentage ranges are as follows: Q = 93-100%, M=85-92%, P=77-84% and L=70-76%. The reason we associate our number scores with Q, M, P, and L is to align our assessment of student achievement in physical education with state PE standards. Most students will receive an "M" - Meets the Standard. This means that they are: Making satisfactory progress in skill development; Usually shows good sportsmanship and self-control; Usually shows respect for others and teamwork; Usually follows directions the first time given; and Actively participates in most activities.
