This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to master the skill of entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbolic information on a keyboard and a ten-key pad using the touch method of key stroking. Emphasis is placed on development of accuracy and speed, proper techniques, and correct fingering. The student will develop skill in formatting letters, memoranda, reports, tables, and other business documents.
Instructional Philosophy:
· The first seven – eight weeks of school is drill work to learn the computer keys and develop speed
· Our goal is 35 WPM
· When proper keying is achieved we move on to formatting memo’s, business and personal business letters, tables, agenda’s, fax cover sheets, unbound reports, and lists using proper formatting, software enhancements and successful interpretation of proofreading symbols.
· The work is first demonstrated using an LCD projector
· Questions are encouraged.
· The students then key an example with the help of the instructor.
· The students then key samples and assignments with instructor monitoring progress.
· A final assessment is given after each unit completion.
Course Description: This course is designed to introduce students to software applications that are necessary to live and work in a technological society. The applications covered include word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation. Other content areas may include computer hardware, terminology, and concepts.
