Welcome to my site!  As Career Development Facilitator or CDF, as I am commonly referred, my job is to increase students’ awareness of potential careers and assist them in exploring  the best career for them based on their interests, work values, and skills.  Through career assessments and lessons, students discover which career cluster(s) they should consider and are then provided opportunities to learn more about occupations within their chosen career cluster  through virtual job shadowing, on-site job shadowing, Hillcrest’s Career Chats, field trips, and other career events such as Career Blitz.  Students choose a career cluster in ninth grade and a major in tenth grade, but may change their choices if their interests change.  For more information on this leading initiative, please visit www.scpathways.org.

South Carolina has mandated this program to help students make the connection between school and the real world.  Today’s graduate must compete in a global workforce that requires a much higher skill level than those of previous generations; thus, in order for students to be successful, they must begin taking steps in high school to learn a skill or be prepared to continue their education at a higher level.  Also, by obtaining a job that incorporates their interests and work values, graduates will be more successful.  After all, someone was correct when they said "if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life".
