Mission Statement

We provide educational experiences, in cooperation with the home and community, that prepare students for lifelong learning and for ethical, productive participation in a democratic society and the global community.

You have reached the web page for Mrs. Bolden's Consumer and Family classes.

Seventh, eighth and sixth grade classes are currently held for nine weeks.

The Consumer and Family Curriculum is designed for boys and girls and utilizes cooperative learning tactics, hands-on learning strategies, and academic educational knowledge that integrates occupational skills in creating a positive learning environment for students.Students are currently working on the Sewing & Textile Unit. The  Home Management & your Environment Unit. will follow. I encourage lots of practice at home in the with home tasks,as well as,helping others in the family and community.Lazy teens may become lazy young adults that will never grow up and leave the nest! Encorage your kids to help with simple chores around the house, especially the kitchen and wash room area. They love to cook but hate the clean-up! Presently we are in the Social and Communication Unit that deals with self-esteem and social developmental skills. This is a social class and students must learn to work together despite their differences.Healthy lifestyle changes are encouraged along with poper diet and exercise, Nutrition , and Chemistry details about cooking will be explored.Later students will  practice simple sewing skills like sewing on a button or hand stitching a hem or ripped garment. Introduce them to your crafty side and encourage reuse and recycling of products and clothing. Along with the social and family relation unit students in the 8th grade will review information on Recycling and Environmental terms. Later the Nutrition and Kitchen lab unit will be introduced and Nutrition and Consumer information completed. Encourage more practice at home! The hand-sewn projects and the Sewing and Textile classes won't start late January! Seventh and eighth grade sewing machine projects will only be offered if students bring their own stuffing for pillows because of funding for such. I can't afford to waste materials with this years limited budget! It's a challenge to create cheaper ways of accomplishing sewing projects. One solution is to use recycled materials that can be transformed into newer and more usable products.
Introduction to Home Management and Real Estate information and Consumerism information follows the Textile or Food Unit presently in the next 2-weeks of this 9-weeks.  Later unit work on the Textile Unit focuses on Bookmarks or Home Decor type projects emphasizing crafts and sewing combined  created to practice hand-stitching.The 7th and 8th graders promotional items reflect  reading awareness or School Spirit.Sixth graders this year will work on a cross-stitch picture pattern utilzing a Graphic pattern created by the teacher to save money and peak local interest of students!!Extra credit Bookmark materials will be issued for advanced students.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Part   completed the Social Unit will last for 2-weeks::  ( Image Development/ Hero folder assignment)
