It is time once again! This year in your child’s Biology class, we are going to open up the living world to figure out how things work, how they’re related to each other, and how we fit into all of the workings of our living world. Being prepared is of utmost importance. Bringing a pencil and paper to class everyday is imperative, especially on test dates. With recent changes in textbook issuance, we will have “spare” copies in our classroom. This allows to student to keep a copy of the textbook at home to use for homework and independent study. Lastly, a notebook to take notes in or a binder to keep printed notes is a must. I may occasionally have notes online that students may print off and bring to class. These can be extremely helpful for students that have a hard time concentrating on what is being said while they write. All that is needed is a USB/Flash drive to have them downloaded to. Lastly, for parents of students taking Biology I, the course does have a state mandated end-of-course examination. To help students prepare for the rigor of this test, I will occasionally have them complete online tests through a website called USATestPrep.com. This web resource has proven invaluable to all subjects here at TRHS that require EOCE’s. Throughout the semester, students can logon to the above website and complete practice quizzes, benchmark tests, and other practice items for extra credit.
District policy on posting grades: "All grades for your student will be posted within seven (7) calendar days from the date the assignment/assessment is collected. Major projects and lengthy term papers will have grades posted within fourteen (14) calendar days of collecting the assignment."
Also, you may check your student's progress at any point during the year by using the parent portal. You will need to setup a username and password to login, then you may register to view all of your child's (children's) information by using their student ID (found on their latest progress report or report card). You may also obtain your student's information in person through our guidance department.
I hope that we can communicate regularly throughout the school year. Feel free to call me anytime. I do get to check email more frequently than phone messages, so emailing would be the best way to reach me. Let’s help your child be as successful as they can be! |
