Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to Biology. My name is Mrs. Oana Willimon and this is my 7th year at Mauldin High School. I am originally from Romania, but have been in the USA for the past twenty years. This year I will be teaching Applied Biology 2 and Biology 1 CP. A description of the two courses has been provided below. I look forward to working with your children and you, and to a fun, productive school year.

Applied Biology 2  is the second part of a 2 part program. The two parts together provide the student with 2 out of 3 science classes needed for graduation.The course is designed to familiarize the college the student with the major concepts of biological science: the cell; molecular basis of heredity; biological evolution; interdependence of organisms; matter, energy, and organization in living systems; and behavior and regulation.  This course provides numerous opportunities for students to develop science process skills, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the nature of science through inquiry-based learning experiences.  Investigative, hands-on lab activities that address the high school inquiry standards are an integral part of this course. (South Carolina Board of Education) This class has an EOC.

Biology 1 CP is an introductory laboratory-based course designed to familiarize the college preparatory student with the major concepts of biological science: the cell; molecular basis of heredity; biological evolution; interdependence of organisms; matter, energy, and organization in living systems; and behavior and regulation.  This course provides numerous opportunities for students to develop science process skills, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the nature of science through inquiry-based learning experiences.  Investigative, hands-on lab activities that address the high school inquiry standards are an integral part of this course.
