button Welcome to First Grade at Armstrong Elementary School. We are "Going Places" at Armstrong. As we continue to read, we learn more about ourselves and the world around us.

Your child's first grade experience will be the building block on which he will enable himself to be a productive member of his community. I set high expectations of each and every student. I have found, and you will see, that children can accomplish tasks with confidence when given a positive and encouraging atmosphere.

button  First Grade Goal
The overall goal of first grade is for your child to become responsible, productive, and to be accountable for his/her learning and behavior.

Our reading/language arts program includes skills taught in reading; phonics and comprehension, writing; grammer, spelling, and handwriting, and researching in books and technology.

We use a math program that focuses on using manipulatives as we learn basic addition and subtraction operation facts, patterns, relationships and functions of numbers. The goal for first graders is to be proficient in basic skills, develop understanding, and to be problem-solvers.

The Science, Social Studies, and Health programs allow the first grader to use inquiry skills and processing skills and provide hands-on experiences.
