From the teacher: Mrs. Gillespie
I am delighted to be your child's teacher. Being a parent myself I know the anxiety that comes with a new school year. I hope you and your child will feel more comfortable by knowing more about me. This will be my thirteenth year at Heritage. I have taught Fourth Grade and Third Grade. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and many extra hours of classes and workshops. I try to teach with the most current and up to date methods available. I love to teach and my students know it! In our classroom, we are a family. Some of the work we do is done together, in teams. In this way we learn to cooperate, share, and communicate with others. We spend many hours together; working, learning, and growing. We love our school, our classmates, and our classroom. Drop by soon. We would love to show you our latest accomplishments.

Peace Center IDEA Program In 2004, I began my teacher training with The Peace Center’s IDEA Program (Intensive Development in Education through the Arts). Through IDEA, I have learned many creative ways to involve all of the students in our class in learning through the arts—music, drama, visual art, poetry and creative movement. This program gave me the opportunity to learn from master teaching artists who travel to Greenville from the Kennedy Center, which is known as a national leader in designing arts integration training for teachers. In our classroom, students work hard to strengthen our skills of concentration and cooperation, so we can work together to learn as a team. Many of our lessons involve movement and solving problems in groups. We spend time talking about the arts, reflecting on lessons, and making personal connections to we’re learning in school. Through the arts, we are able to share what we know by creating something new. I hope you’ll talk to your child about the active, collaborative and hands-on learning that takes place in our classroom. Thank you for your support!
