January 2012
Parents/Guardians:
During the final week of the 2nd Nine Weeks Greer Middle IB School students will take part in Benchmark Testing in the four academic classes. Benchmark Tests are given at several middle schools in Greenville County at the end of each nine weeks. Our teachers gather valuable information from our students during the Benchmark Tests that help drive instruction for the remainder of the school year. Below are the days that each Benchmark Test will be administered:
Math Thursday, January 5th
English/Language Arts Friday, January 6th
Science Monday, January 9th
Social Studies Tuesday, January 10th
Benchmark Tests are assessments used to identify mastery of standards in each content area. These tests will allow our teachers to verify mastery of the standards that were taught over the first nine weeks of the school year. These are the same standards that will be assessed in the spring with our state-mandated Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (PASS) test.
The Benchmark Tests will be graded and will count as a “Major” assessment (similar to other tests that are given by the teacher). The tests are designed to last one class period, so your child will not have a major interruption of his/her school day. Many teachers will send home a study guide for the students to prepare. However, in most cases, the best study guide for students is simply to refresh themselves on the material that was taught during the first nine weeks of the school year.
If your child is absent during any of these days, they will make up the Benchmark Test upon their return.
If you have any specific questions about a particular Benchmark Test, you may contact Carlton Greene (GMS Instructional Coach) at 355-5818.
Thank you,
Scott Rhymer, Principal
